IMPASUGONG, Bukidnon --A team leader of Squad Uno, SRC2, North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC) voluntarily surrendered to the Army's 8th Infantry Battalion on November 1, 2019.
Exhausted in evading the continuous military operation, Alias Alex, 32, married, made headway to the 8th Infantry Battalion Headquarters and announced his intention to surrender. He was welcomed by the unit including former rebels who yielded ahead of him.
Alex said he decided to yield because he wants to be with his family. “I am longing for home, my eldest son who is 6 years old should have started his pre-school but I was not there to take care of him. His mother cannot do it alone with our three children,” he said.
Alex shared that the NPA promised him a salary which prompted him to join the struggle. However, a year has gone by but he did not receive any amount.
He also recounted his horrible experience while in the NPA group adding that he did not feel any satisfaction having to endlessly evade the Army conducting military operations in all weather conditions.
With his surrender, Alex expects the Army to help him to be with his family. He also committed to help the government. “I promise to help our Philippine government by sharing all my knowledge and information that I have," he added.
Alex is the 37th NPA member who surrendered to the 8th IB this year.
8th IB Commander Lt. Col. Ronald Illana, said they will facilitate the enrollment of Alex to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for him to start a new and productive life with his family.
E-CLIP is the government's reintegration program that provides a complete package of assistance to former rebels.
Illana reiterated his call to the remaining members of the terrorist groups especially the Sub-Regional Committee 1 and 2 of the NCMRC to peacefully surrender and avail the E-CLIP. “We are doing our best to inform you of the E-CLIP of the government, this is the best gift for you and your family this Christmas season, surrender now and you will be accommodated,” he said.
According to him, the 8th IB is always ready to assist those NPAs who want to concede to the government. (8th IB)
