MAGPET, Cotabato – More troops of the 72nd Infantry Battalion were deployed as another earthquake rocked the Province of Cotabato, 9:30 this morning, October 31, 2019.

As an immediate action to the Magnitude 6.5 tremor which hit the province, 72IB deployed additional troops to assist the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Councils of its AOR: Kidapawan City, Magpet, and President Roxas. More structures were damaged as the earthquake rocked the province early this morning. Eva Hotel, one of Kidapawan City’s landmark was one of those. The number of casualties rose after the tremor shook the province. According to reports, death toll increased to eight (8). The epicenter of the quake was recorded in Kisante, North Cotabato.

This is the third earthquake following the Magnitude 6.3 earthquake last October 16 and Magnitude 6.6 on October 29. Aftershocks are still experienced in the province. The consecutive earthquakes brought trauma to the people of Cotabato and its nearby provinces.

“This is the third one (earthquake). In times of such calamities each one of us must stay alert and ready. 72IB will always be here for the people of Cotabato,” Lt. Col Rey Alvarado, Battalion Commander of 72IB, said in his statement

Extensive Rescue operations and monitoring have been launched by the respective Incident Command Posts by the municipalities.
