CAMP MONTECLARO, Miagao, Iloilo, Sept. 18 – Former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) terrorist group who surrendered to the Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion on July 7 will receive financial assistance from the local government of Tubungan, Iloilo.
According to 1st Lieutenant Hazel Joy Durotan, Information Officer of the 61st IB, Tubungan mayor Roquito Tacsagon has pledged to provide financial aid to the former rebels.

In addition, the Tubungan LGU will also provide the rebel returnees livelihood training which will be facilitated by the town’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO), Durotan said.
“Aside from this, the former rebels will soon be granted with financial and livelihood assistance under the Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP),” she said.
She said that alias “Arnold,” who was then a Finance Logistic Officer (FLO) of the CPP-NPA’s Front 12, Southern Front, and alias “Baby” who served as Political Guide and Medical Officer of Squad 2, Suyak Platoon, Southern Front, both under Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay, surrendered to 61IB.
Alias Baby of Tubungan, Iloilo surrendered along with US Springfield 30 caliber rifle; 18 rounds live ammunitions of 30 caliber, one 38 caliber pistol, six rounds live ammunitions, and three rounds empty shell of 40mm.
For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Joel Benedict Batara, 61st Commanding Officer, stressed the readiness of the government to assist rebels who are willing to return to the fold of the law.
“This is the government’s way of showing its sincerity in helping those who voluntarily surrendered and seek to live a peaceful and more productive way of life.”
Batara added that “Communism is a dead ideology, and that is why they keep on losing their members. We are expecting more surrenders as we continue to carry on our Community Support Program (CSP) with the overwhelming support of concerned agencies and the community.” (With report from 61IB-CMO/PIA6-Capiz)
