The arrest of two suspected NPA rebels identified as Jomar Agustin, alias Mari, and Revely Tayab, alias Tara, yielded two .45 caliber pistols with two magazines containing eight ammunition.
Lt. Col. Emelito Thaddeus, 79th Infantry Battalion commander, yesterday said that they launched military operations after being informed by residents in the area about the presence of seven armed NPA members, who are planning to sabotage their three-day peace summit in the place.
Logan said the combat operations led to a gunbattle between Army soldiers and seven NPA rebels, who fled after almost 10 minutes of gunbattle, leaving behind their two companions, who were later captured.
He commended residents in the area for their timely information that led to the prevention of the attempt of the rebels to stage another terror attack.
“This is a clear indication that the populace are fed up with the ruthlessness of the CPP-NPA terrorists who destroyed their peaceful communities,” Logan said.
No one was hurt among government troppers, who also recovered a hammock, a bandoleer pouch, cellular phone and assorted kitchen utensils from the encounter site, aside from the guns, he added.
