CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—General Benjamin Madrigal Jr thanked the General Headquarters in his last flag-raising ceremony today, September 23, as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

General Madrigal will cap over 38 years of military service when he relinquish his post to Lt. Gen. Noel Clement in a Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony tomorrow, September 24, here.

“To all of you, our personnel, the very heart of our institution, I will always cherish the dedication, cooperation, and professionalism you have showed during my time at the helm of the AFP. You’ve made my work easier and more fulfilling and for that, I thank you all,” General Madrigal said.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sandiwa” Class of 1985, General Madrigal rose in the military ranks with his dedication to duty and service.

He was designated as Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command, Southern Luzon Command, the 4th Infantry Division, the 701st infantry Brigade, and the 26th Infantry Battalion.

He was also assigned in positions of major responsibility, including as Chief of Staff of the Philippine Army; Chief of War Plans in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans J5; Secretary Joint Staff; and Chief of the Army Management and Fiscal Office.

“If you have spent your whole life and dedicated your time in the service, it will be difficult to let go. But I am confident that I have given the Service everything that I am and everything that I can and this somehow makes the parting easier. I will bow out of service with a grateful heart and fulfilled soul knowing that I have given it my all,” General Madrigal added.

During the flag-raising ceremony, General Madrigal also led the recognition of AFP offices that moved up in their AFP Transformation Roadmap Institutionalization Pathway.

This includes the Office of the Internal Auditor that reached the institutionalized stage; the Office for Strategic Studies and Strategy Management Office and the Office for Fiscal Management that was conferred with the Proficient status; and the Offices of the Chief of Staff, The Vice Chief of Staff, The Deputy Chief of Staff; Office for the Ethical Standard and Public Accountability; and the International Military Affairs Center that reached the Compliant status.

General Madrigal also received eight units of multi-purpose vehicles (Toyota Innova 2019) the donation of the Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association Inc. for use of the different AFP Unified Commands and the JTF National Capital Region.

He also awarded the CSAFP Commendation Medal and Ribbon BGen Peter Suchiangco (Res), Navy Captain Rigoberto Banta, Marine Colonel Romulo Quemado II, and Lt. Col. Xavier Celestial for the successful completion of the Camp Aguinaldo Mortuary, Gallery of Leaders, and Heroes’ Memorial.

“Your contribution and strong commitment to service have been truly valuable to the whole armed forces. May this recognition inspire to even better your performance to serve the AFP,” General Madrigal added.

“To every officer, enlisted personnel, civilian employee who have given me all the support I needed in successfully leading the AFP, thank you very much. It was a great honor and privilege to have served our country and the Filipino people with all of you,” General Madrigal concluded.
