COTABATO CITY – Military and police bomb disposal experts safely disposed of two hand grenades and a 40mm grenade projectile found at the construction site of a children’s playground, which is situated at the back of the City Hall along Barangay Rosary Heights 10 here Monday.

Villagers living near the unfinished playground found the explosives packed in a bag near the back passage leading to the City Hall at about 6 a.m.

Also found inside the same bag was a shoulder-fired launcher for 40mm grenade.

“Investigation as to who could have left the explosives there is still going on,”
Col. Portia Manalad, city police director, said in an interview with reporters here Tuesday.


A review of closed-circuit television security cameras in the area was also underway, she added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi directed officials of Rosary Heights 10, led by Barangay Captain Kagui Kombol Mamalangkay, to aid police authorities in their investigation.

“Fortunately, no one was hurt by the explosives due to its early discovery,” she said.

Sayadi ordered the deployment of policemen at the playground construction site following the incident.
