COL JESUS VILLAMOR AIRBASE, Pasay City (DWDD) - Different leaders of Indigenous People (IPs) from different tribes renders courtesy call to Lt Gen Rozzano D Brigez AFP, the Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force at Staff Lounge, Col Jesus Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.
Together with the CG, PAF were MGen Pelagio C Valenzuela AFP - Chief of Air Staff, Col Gerardo M Zamudio Jr MNSA (PAF) - Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Civil Military Operations, Col Reynold R Rueca GSC (PAF) - Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Operations, Col Loreto B Pasamonte MNSA (PAF) - Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Intelligence, Majo Aristides M Galang Jr PAF - Chief of Air Force Public Affairs Office and other junior officers.
An Executive Order No. 70 was issued by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to provide a Whole-of Nation Approach in defeating the Local Communist Terrorist Groups. EO No. 70 will help the country to achieve inclusive and sustainable peace. Part of this is engaging various stakeholders in dialogues to build a culture of peace that will lay the foundation for sustainable development across various sectors and communities.
A National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) was established to utilize the government's instrumentalities of power with the capabilities of private sector stakeholders to finally end the 50-year long crime and violence committed by the communist terrorists against the people.
Eight (8) leaders from different tribes namely Datu Bawan Jacob Lanes of Mandaya, Datu Joel Dahusay of Manobo, Datu Awing Apuga of Ata-Manobo, Datu Malapandaw Nestor Apas of Langilan-Manobo, Biya Christine Banugan of Mandaya, Bae Chiary Balilan of Ata and Bae Magdalina Iligan of Manobo shared their experiences and sufferings of their tribes in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao to the CG, PAF.
Headed by Datu Bawan Jacob Lanes, the leaders reiterated that the IP communities are in need of proper education and protection from the AFP- PNP for them to preserve their culture and empower their rights as Filipino people.
The PAF responded positively that the Philippine Air Force can contribute by providing the necessities needed to promote peace and sovereignty especially to the IP communities in Mindanao. The PAF will also help the IPs to promote, educate and disseminate their advocacy in the country.
