BANCASI, Butuan City – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have partnered with the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade and conducted a four day Basic First Aid Training from August 6-9, 2019 held at Headquarters, 15th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG), Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM), Philippine Army Brgy Bancasi this City.

In a closing ceremony held yesterday afternoon, Friday, August 9, 2019, a total of thirty-one (31) personnel from 402nd Brigade and its line units completed the four day training conducted by the ICRC Health Field Officers led by Mr John Carlo D Pagaling.

The ICRC is an independent, neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and armed violence. It takes action in response to emergencies and promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and violence and to provide them with assistance.

During the training, participants underwent series of practical exercises to evaluate and develop their first aid skills such as the following: evaluation of combat casualty; basic life support; intravenous infusion, application of splints on fractures and bandages to different types of wounds; and, the manual carries and proper evacuation.

Sgt Rodel J Francisco, one of the participants during his impression on the training complimented the ICRC for eagerly reaching to the security sector as one of the key players in the armed conflict, “We are thankful about the training and considering that the ICRC as a neutral organization, they are genuinely concern to lessen combat casualty and prevent loss of lives thru enhancing our skills in the first aid”.

The closing ceremony was attended by Col Maurito L Licudine, the 402nd Brigade Commander and the Keynote Speaker together with Ms Brigitte Arlette, the Health Delegate, and Major Douglas M Padillo, the Brigade Training Officer.

In his speech, Col Licudine commended the ICRC for partnering with his unit and supporting the training. “My kudos goes to ICRC for conducting the training at nocost to the government. Their expertise in this field surely enhanced the skills of our troops. Likewise, I express my wholehearted gratitude to ICRC for giving us the Combat Life Saving kits for use of our soldiers.”

“We are continuously enhancing the capabilities of our soldiers in line with the intent of professionalizing the Army’s rank and file under the Army transformation Roadmap in order to attain our vision of being world class Army that is a source of national pride”, Col Licudine ended.
