Army to youth: Honor your parents

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 12, 2019): Army to youth: Honor your parents

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Army's Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) told the youth attending Sunday's summit in Bukidnon to honor their parents, in light of the recent Senate hearing about teenagers being recruited to organizations which are allegedly communist fronts.

"Honor your parents, be ambitious, be cautious and be the ambassadors of peace and development in your communities,"
said Lt. General Felimon T. Santos Jr, Eastmincom chief, during his message in the closing program of Youth For Peace Movement's Youth Leaders Summit-Eastern Mindanao, at Mt. Moriah Camp, Pagatpat in Malaybalay, Bukidnon on Sunday.

Santos cited the concerns and stories of parents who appeared recently in the Senate seeking help for their children who disowned their families after they were recruited by some "leftist party-list groups."

During the event, the youth responded by handing over their proposed program of activities, based on the output of their workshop on how they will contribute to peace and development.

The youth’s proposed measures covered four thematic programs: Organizational Development, Community Development, Peace Communication, and Youth Development.

The three-day youth activity gathered 117 youth leaders coming from Regions 10, 11, 12 and 13 (Caraga region), who immersed in various activities such as cultural night, lectures on local governance, the government's peace and development programs, and other related workshops.

The closing activity was attended by Department of Interior and Local Government Assistant Secretary for Mindanao Affairs Marjorie Jalosjos and Executive Director Julius Gutierrez of the National Youth Commission.
