NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - The Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincm), through the 10th Infantry Division, led an Inter-Agency Group that exhumed the remains of three victims of Communist Terrorist Group's (CTG) summary killing at Barangay Digongan, Kitaotao, Bukidnon in the morning of August 22, 2019.
MGen. Jose Faustino Jr., Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, Col. Nolasco Mempin, Brigade Commander of 1003rd Infantry Brigade together with the staff of Eastmincom led and supervised the exhumation which was done by the members of the community, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Kitaotao, Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), 89th Infantry Battalion (IB), victims' family members, and the LGU of Kitaotao.
In an information relayed by Lt. Col. Silas Trasmontero, Commander of 89IB, the gravesite were revealed to them by the members of the Komiting Rebolusyonaryo sa Municipalidad (KRM) who dissociated from the CTG on August 7, 2019, after the Battalion conducted a Community Support Program (CSP) in the area.
Barangay Digongan was once the center of the shadow government KRM, organized by the CTG along the Pantaron Range in the tri-boundary of Bukidnon-Agusan del Sur-Davao del Norte.
The KRM collapsed after the Community denounced and declared the CTG as persona non grata in their area on August 7, 2019.
Accordingly, the remains belong to a certain Joel Rey Miqu Galendez, a retired policeman, Dionisio Camarullo Havana, a Tribal Datu in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, and Army Sgt Reynante Havana Espana.
In a report of San Fernando, Bukidnon Municipal Police Office, the three were abducted on August 22, 2017, after the CTGs conducted a road blockade along the highway at Kalagangan, same municipality.
Evelyn Galendez, sister of Joel Rey Galendez, and Aida España, wife of Sgt. España both said that they have been sending money to the abductors until July 2019, when the CTG cannot comply with the family's demand to show a proof of life.
The remains were formally turned over to their families after a legal and SOCO processing was undertaken.
"While we condemn this International Humanitarian Law-prohibited act of the CTG, we grieve for the victims' relatives. At least, we were able to put closure on their agony," Lt. General Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command emphasized.
"We will continue with our effort to work with every stakeholder to put an end to this kind of inhuman act," he added.
