ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) has formed a “hijab PNP contingent” to undertake community affairs programs across the region.

Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, PRO-9 director, said Wednesday the contingent is part of the 692 new policemen they deployed to undergo a six-month on-the-job Field Training Program (FTP) in the different parts of the region.

The send-off ceremony of the 692 new policemen was held Monday at Camp Col. Romeo Abendan that houses the PRO-9 headquarters in Barangay Mercedes here.

Quidilla said the contingent, composed of 33 Muslim policewomen, will be wearing hijab or head covering worn in public by some Muslim women. They belong to the Masiklab Class 2018-01 that had just completed a six-month Public Safety Basic Recruit Course at the Regional Special Training Unit-9 (RSTU-9) in Barangay Pasonanca, this city.

He said the deployment of the contingent aims to foster peace and oneness of Philippine National Police (PNP) with the Muslim community in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

He added that more policewomen wearing hijab are expected to be deployed in the different community affairs program in the region.
