From the Manila Bulletin (Jul 18, 2019): 2 soldiers slain in ambush in Cotabato town
Two government troopers were ambushed by at least five members of the New People’s Army (NPA) under Guerrilla Front 53 on Tuesday.
Reports from Arakan Police said the two soldiers were onboard a black XRM motorcycle and were heading towards Sitio Bukatol in Barangay Kinawayan, Arakan when they were ambushed.
Both died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds, reports added.
Police recovered from the crime scene several cartridges and bullets from M16 rifles.
Investigators said the victims were tasked to prepare the barangay in Arakan for a meeting with the residents and village officials in declaring the NPA rebels as persona non grata.
