Posted to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Website (Jan 22): 2nd Moro Young Leaders Congress convened, briefed on the status of CAB
About 130 Muslim Youth Leaders, and Young Professionals convened since Saturday, January 20, and were briefed on the current status of the GPH-MILF peace process, in a three-day youth leadership training in South Cotabato.
Katyakap, Inc. and Bangsamoro Youth Initiative for Development (BYID) invited MILF Information Chief and Peace Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal to deliver lecture on updates of the peace process during the conduct of the 2nd Muslim Youth Leaders Congress (MYLC) on January 20-23 at Greenleaf Hotel, General Santos City.
Held annually, this year’s MYLC aims to provide youth participants a hands on exposure to current information including those about youth empowerment, and participatory governance, peace-building, socio-economic development, environment, and quality education.
Prof. Jovar G. Pantao, MYLC Event Consultant to Luwaran, “MYLC this time is bigger in terms of scope, and relevance. The most interesting is that the participants will be given opportunities to draft alternative policies to respond to the social problems of the Bangsamoro.”
“With 2nd MYLC, we want to give emphasis on how to capitalize the strength of the young Moro individuals to serve as partners in various activities geared towards sustaining the gains of peace, and development in Mindanao,” said Kaharudin G. Dalaten, MYLC Over-All Chairman.
The first MYLC cohort consisted of 100 youth participants was held last December 26-30, 2016 at Science Technical Training Center (STTC) Mindanao State University, General Santos City.
It was facilitated by the Concerned Muslim Individuals (CMI), and the Federation of Muslim Students Association (FeMSA) based in General Santos City in partnership with the Action for Advancement and Development of Mindanao (AFADMIN) Inc., based in Cotabato City.
Asked about their experiences during the first cohort, Naomi S. Sugagil, an education graduate of MSU General Santos City shared that she gained at least two things i.e. “diversity among the 13 Moro tribes, and the commitment of youth for the development the Bangsamoro despite of their differences.”
Likewise, Ahmed U. Tadtagan, an IT expert said, “I met people through Islamic consanguinity, and common point of view."
Also, King Alizon M. Camral, a political science graduating student of Sultan Kudarat State University said, “The MYLC enlightened me to be a responsible Moro youth in order to continue the legacy of our forefathers in defending our Islamic way of life, and attaining our right to self-determination. It also gave me the avenue to reach out to the grassroots through dialogues, and partnership that can help us collaborate effectively.”
Moreover, “What I gained from the 1st MYLC is the appreciation of the importance of the role the youth plays in the society. I believe if the Moro youth realize the strength, and influence they can provide to our society, then our long sought-after right to self-determination is possible, in shaa Allah,” shared Nasiri B. Abas, Computer Engineer, and young business entrepreneur.
Meanwhile, MYLC is always held together with the Sultan Kudarat Awards.
According to Mikhail “Ting” Kusain, the overall event adviser, “Sultan Kudarat Awards is the first award-giving event that would serve as a venue to recognize, and showcase Bangsamoro excellence in the fields of academe, peace and development, leadership, community service and volunteerism, and other noteworthy endeavors that help in the continuous nation-building and universal cooperation.”
The Sultan Kudarat Awards is now on its 14th year with the theme: “Rudiments of Bangsamoro Resilience, Service, and Excellence,” and with Sultan Kudarat Governor Sultan Pax S. Mangudadatu, the keynote speaker.
“It (i.e. SKA) has become an annual tradition,” said Aisha J. Midtanggal, this year’s designated SKA chairwoman.
