Seven former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who surrendered to the troopers of the army’s 81st Infantry Battalion received livelihood aid from the government through the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) in a recent simple rite at the provincial capitol of Ilocos Sur here.
Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis V. Singson and Colonel Henry A. Robinson Jr., the commander of the army’s 702nd Brigade, led the other government officials in giving cash aid to the seven ex-NPA rebels with a total amount of P691, 000.00.
Singson appealed to all NPA rebels in the Ilocos to return to the fold of law for the attainment of lasting peace, development and progress in the province. He also assured the assistance from the provincial government for the surrenderees.
For his part, Robinson disclosed that CLIP is a complete package programmed for NPAs and active supporter who want to go back to the mainstream of society and start a peaceful and productive new life.
“The CLIP is a manifestation of the sincerity of the government in assisting these former NPA rebels who were exploited by twisted belief and doctrine. It is the duty of the government officials and agencies to ensure that every program as a peace and development initiative of the government is promptly delivered and implemented to the concerned individual,” said Robinson.
He said that the activity was also a concrete proof of their collaborative efforts of all levels of the government to ensure the sustainability of the program.
He also assured that his command would continue receiving members of the NPA who will surrender and implement their efforts in ushering lasting peace and true development in their area of responsibility by delivering the government programs and services to the people.
“We are targeting to lessen the number of NPA rebels in the region and the CLIP awarding is very timely as this will probably encourage the rebels to surrender and to support the peace program of the government,” Robinson added.
