Mayor wants DCPO-Haribon to tie up plans

From the Mindanao Times (Oct 24): Mayor wants DCPO-Haribon to tie up plans

MAYOR Sara Duterte has asked the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to synchronize its plans with the newly activated Joint Task Force Haribon.

This is to avoid overlapping of functions of the different organizations helping out with the counter-terrorism efforts in the city.

Aside from the DCPO, the city also has its own Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCCC) that helps the police and the military in keeping the city safe.

Duterte-Carpio asked the Eastern Mindanao Command to come up with a proposal on how the city can assist financially the counter-terrorism operations of the group.  The mayor said she already twice assured the command of the city’s full support.

“They said that they will just come up with it and submit it to the City Government of Davao,” the mayor said.

She has welcomed the creation of the Joint Task Force Haribon that aims to expand the security of the city and nearby locations.

The task force, the mayor said, is tasked to monitor the entire city, including the border of the Davao-Bukidnon boundary.

Formed by the Eastern Mindanao Command, the task force comprises the Task Force Davao, Task Force Samal, the 84th Infantry Brigade, Philippine Navy and the 11th Tactical Operations Group. It was activated last Saturday at the Camp Felix Apolinario in Panacan.

EastMinCom spokesperson, Maj. Ezra Balagtey, said the security arrangement aims to beef up existing arrangements among different agencies.

Mayor Duterte-Carpio said that “Davao will be very busy in the coming six years,” referring to the role of the city as an “alternative seat of power” with President Rodrigo Duterte regularly flying in every week from the traditional seat in Malacanang.

The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting, which will be hosted by Davao City next year, is also one of the considerations for the joint task force operations.
