From the Philippine Information Agency (Jul 26): Foreign affairs secretary, Indonesian Foreign Minister discuss security measures ahead of ASEAN meet

Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto R. Yasay, Jr. met with H.E. Retno L.P. Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on the sidelines of the 49th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Vientiane, Laos PDR on July 23.

During the meeting, both Ministers reaffirmed the close bilateral ties and cooperation between the Philippines and Indonesia, with particular note on recent efforts to improve the security of marine travel between the two countries for the safe and unimpeded flow of people and commerce.

Both sides also acknowledged the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region through respect and adherence to international law.  The two Ministers also pledged to uphold and promote ASEAN unity and centrality, something that the Philippines and Indonesia are working very hard to promote and preserve.
