Malacanang expects the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision
upholding the legality of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) can
further boost the capability of the armed forces and contribute to its
modernization.
“We likewise remain confident that through this military
cooperation, we would improve our joint humanitarian assistance and disaster
relief efforts,” Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar
said in a statement
The SC on Tuesday ruled with finality that the EDCA between
the Philippines
and the United States (US) is constitutional.
The agreement aimed to bolster ties between the two
countries, particularly in military cooperation.
EDCA was signed in April 2014 during the official visit of
US President Barack Obama in Manila .
“The Supreme Court is the final arbiter of our nation’s
disputes,” Andanar added.
