3 troops wounded in Maguindanao clash with BIFF

From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 26): 3 troops wounded in Maguindanao clash with BIFF

Three soldiers were wounded after a clash with Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Shariff Saydona Mustapha town, Maguindanao Tuesday morning.

Capt. Jo-ann Petinglay, 6th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said the clash took place around 4 a.m. at Sitio Lanas, Barangay Pamalian.

Sporadic fighting is still ongoing.

Petinglay said troopers from the 34th Infantry Battalion were conducting clearing operations when they chanced upon an undetermined number of BIFF men who fired on government troops, wounding three.

The skirmish in Barangay Pamailian involved the group of BIFF commander Karalian, a known follower of the late Umbra Kato, the BIFF founder.

The wounded men are now undergoing treatment in Camp Siongco Station Hospital in Maguindanao.

Two MD-520 attacks are now on stand-by at the 601st Brigade Tactical Command Post for possible close air support.
