Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima on
Tuesday expressed her confidence that the filing of the complaint against 26
members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) before the DOJ in
connection with the Mamasapano encounter will not affect the peace talks.
The 26 MILF members were among those charged with complex
crime of direct assault with murder for the deaths of 35 members of the
Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) during the Mamasapano
incident on Jan. 25, 2015.
De Lima said that she knew that the MILF understands the
process that should be done.
Likewise, De Lima confirmed that the report of the National
Bureau of Investigation-National Prosecution Service (NBI-NPS) Special
Investigating Team also passed through President Benigno S. Aquino III.
De Lima said that it was clear with the President that the
investigation underwent the process and he understood that those found
responsible should be held liable for the Mamasapano incident.
At the same time, De Lima explained that the investigating
team was already prepared to file the case since more than a month ago, but
they decided to give way for the so-called "alternative version" of
the incident.
However, in the end, De Lima said, the investigating team
abandoned the "alternative version" and they also secured a
"clearance" from the President to file the complaint.
