The Police Regional Office (PRO)-12 is set to deploy an
additional 149 police personnel to augment its counter-insurgency operations in
parts of the region.
Chief Insp. Aldrin Martin Gonzales, PRO-12 public
information officer, said Tuesday the regional police is currently finalizing
the arrangements for the movement of the police personnel to strategic areas
within the region’s four provinces and five cities.
Also known as Soccsksargen, the region comprises the
provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, North
Cotabato and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong,
Kidapawan and Cotabato.
“These are police personnel who were especially trained for
counter-insurgency operations,” he said.
He was referring to the Philippine National Police’s
modified Special Counter Insurgency Operations Unit Training (SCOUT).
Gonzales said the 149 policemen comprise the latest
graduates of the 45-day SCOUT course that was facilitated by the PRO-12’s Regional Training School based in this city.
Also known as modified SCOUT 46-2015 “Kamagong” class, the
new police scouts received their certificates of completion and pins in a
simple ceremony held the PRO-12 headquarters in Barangay Tambler here on
Monday.
The police official said the SCOUT course is considered as
one of the “toughest trainings a police officer could ever experience.”
He said the training covers modules on internal security
operations and counter-insurgency strategies.
It comprise rope courses; close quarter battle; first aid;
terrain modelling; immediate action drill; water/seaborne tactics; survival and
field training exercises; and, community immersion, he said.
“The training also puts premium on combat skills
development, jungle fighting and survival techniques,” Gonzales said.
Along with the skills enhancement, he added that the SCOUT
course teaches trainees how to think and act fast as well as withstand
operational pressures.
