Troopers from the Army's 66th Infantry Battalion repelled a New People's Army (NPA) patrol of 30 fighters during an encounter in Sitio KM-30, Barangay Dagohoy, Talaingod town, Davao del Norte on Saturday.

1st Lt. Vergel Lacambra, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the clash took place at 11:30 a.m.when the Army troopers, while on routine security patrol, encountered the rebel force under Front 55 of the NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.

The firefight lasted for about 20 minutes. No one was hurt among the soldiers.

Troops recovered various subversive documents, electrical wires and assorted medical paraphernalia.

Army units are now pursuing the bandits who left traces of blood stains in their route of withdrawal, Lacambra said.

Last Jan. 30, Army troopers from the 60th Infantry Battalion also clashed with NPA bandits and seized an enemy encampment in Barangay Andap, Laak, Compostela Valley Province.

The rebels were planning another extortion activity in the area when encountered by Army units. the military said.
