The Philippine Navy and US Navy co-hosted the US Naval War College (UNSWC) 10th Regional Alumni Symposium (RAS) in Manila from May 21 to 23.

With the agenda on “Enhancing Regional Maritime Stability”, US and international alumni of USNWC had an opportunity to exchange insights and perspectives on security challenges in a comfortable and not-for-attribution environment.

PN public affairs office chief Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Fabic said an estimated 100 participants from Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, United States and Vietnam attended the event.

The program includes keynote speeches by prominent military leaders in the region, faculty-led panels addressing contemporary challenges operational and technical issues of relevance to the region and table-top war games.

Topics on information sharing/interoperability, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) lessons learned and preserving freedom of navigation were also discussed.

RAS is an academic conference designed to continue the professional military education of USNW College alumni after they graduate from the college.

It also allows the graduates to take advantage of the “Newport Connection” across many classes.
