Village chief abducted

From the Mindanao Newsbits section of the Manila Bulletin (May 23): Village chief abducted

Davao City – A village chief in Maco, Compostela Valley was reported to have been abducted by undetermined  of armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The man was identified as Edgar Reyabonansa of Barangay Malamodao.

When reached by Manila Bulletin, Army Capt. Ernest Carolina, information officer of the 10th Infantry Division, said the abduction was confirmed by 1001st Brigade that operates in the area.

No other details were given by the army. Carolina said until now no reports were received by the family members from his abductors. No demands were given either, police said.

The leadership of the NPAs has not yet issued any statement.
