From the Philippine News Agency (May 19): Phil Navy holds bloodletting activity in Cebu

The Naval Forces Central (NAVFORCEN) here held a bloodletting activity on May 16 in line with the nationwide celebration of Philippine Navy’s 116th Founding Anniversary.

The bloodletting was held simultaneously nationwide, according to a statement from Lt. James Reyes, NAVFORCEN civil military operations officer.

Reyes said the bloodletting generated around 17,500 liters of total accumulated blood.

He said the bloodletting was done in partnership with Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 Blood Center (RBC) based in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical  Center Cebu (VSMMC) led by Dr. Reynette Christine Ligaray.

Dr. Ligaray stressed the importance of serving the community by participating in life-saving activities.

"Knowing within yourself that you saved a life through your donated blood is a priceless fulfillment,” she said.

NAVFORCEN Commander Commodore Reynaldo L. Yoma AFP, for his part, said they are happy to have served their countrymen by sharing blood.

"It is our symbol of humanity and kindness to our fellow Filipinos,” said Commodore Yoma in a press statement.

Yoma thanked the health department for giving the Philippine Navy sailors and marines the opportunity to donate blood and be a part of other people’s lives.
