The Eastern Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has announced that its officers and men joined various youth groups and organizations in the formal launching on Monday of the Department of Education's "Brigada Eskwela" this year.

Capt. Alberto Caber, the command's spokesperson, said their soldiers were deployed with brooms and carpentry tools to assist in the repair of classrooms and other school facilities as part of a soldier’s commitment in providing a safe environment for the students this coming school year.

Soldiers from the Eastern Mindanao Command, Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao and 5th Civil Relations Group participated in the ongoing "Brigada Eskwela" activities at different schools in Davao City.

In the same manner, the 4th Infantry Division will send its soldiers to requesting schools in Cagayan De Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, and CARAGA Provinces, while the 10th Infantry Division will undertake its "Brigada Eskwela" in Compostela Valley Province, Davao Del Sur, Davao Del Norte, Davao Oriental and portions of North Cotabato.

“With collaboration from the Youth For Peace and other civilian volunteers, we will continue to provide manpower in support to DepEd’s program in providing a safe environment conducive to learning. This will not only be a week-long affair but one year-round commitment to the schools," Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III said.

He commended the different units who are actively involved in this noble service and encouraged other civilian stakeholders to participate in the yearly undertaking.
