THE bodies of two alleged members of the New People's Army (NPA) who died in an encounter with state troopers in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on July 20 were claimed by their respective families over the weekend.
Slain rebels were identified as Marivic “Ivan” Ebarle, commanding officer of Section Guerilla Unit (SGU), 37, of Brgy. Macagahay, and Romy “Nonoy” Catacio, 23, of Brgy. Quintin Remo, all in Moises Padilla.
Military records claimed that Ebarle was a hitman responsible for various killings of civilians. His cadaver was claimed by his live-in partner.
Both were killed in an encounter that transpired between the troops of the 62nd Infantry “Unifier” Battalion and six members of the NPA on July 20 at Sitio Kawayanan, Brgy. Montilla.
The encounter also resulted in the recovery of one .45 caliber pistol, one .357 revolver, serviceable ammunition, steel magazines, two backpacks with personal belongings, medical kits, and assorted medicines, the military reported.
