A soldier was killed while a government militia was wounded in an ambush by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte on Sunday.

S/Sgt. Darryl Jay Rivera died at the scene while John Odon suffered a gunshot wound during the attack that occurred at around 6:40 a.m. in Barangay Puting Bato.

Reports said Rivera and Odon were on a motorcycle on their way to their base in Sitio Lusong when the rebels waylaid them.

Rivera and Odon came from the city proper for a meeting about the distribution of livelihood projects for residents in the village.
