FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija – The Commanding General of United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC), General Charles A. Flynn was accorded with Arrival Honors led by Major General Andrew D. Costelo PA, during his visit to the Headquarters of 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army at Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija on February 22, 2022.

General Flynn paid his courtesy call to Commander 7ID as part of the preparation for the conduct of this year’s 20-day SALAKNIB Exercise which will run from March 05- 24, 2022, at Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

Immediately following his courtesy call was his visit to the 7ID facilities such as the firing range; Battalion Retraining Facilities; 7th Division Training School; and Pahingahan Dam.

It can be recalled that the Office of the Chief of Staff for Education and Training, OG8, Philippine Army, in coordination with the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) has finalized its site inspection at Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija last January 19.

Said site inspection aims to survey the projected training venues to ensure their availability, suitability, and training readiness for the exercise.

The SALAKNIB Exercise is a PH-US Army-to-Army theater security cooperation exercise between PA and USARPAC.

It aims to enhance Philippine and US defense readiness by developing tactical interoperability while simultaneously strengthening bilateral relationships and demonstrating the US resolve to support the security interests of allies and partners in the region.

Said Exercise will be participated primarily by personnel from 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT) along with the 51st Engineer Brigade; Civil-Military Operations Regiment; Army Artillery Regiment; Aviation Regiment; Armor Division; Light Reaction Regiment; Special Forces Regiment; and First Scout Ranger Regiment.

MGen Costelo, on the other hand, welcomed General Flynn to 7ID and assured the strengthened collaboration between them as they beef up the Philippine Army’s anti-terrorism unit’s capabilities.

“We are committed to the success of this year’s Exercise as we will strengthen our counter-terrorism expertise to address all forms of threat including the local communist insurgency,” said MGen Costelo.
