Government forces neutralized five armed lawless group members and seized firearms in a short gunfight in Ampatuan, Maguindanao Saturday evening, February 19, 2022. Based on the report from the ground, troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion received a report of a robbery hold-up incident at a convenience store with an eatery in Barangay Kauran, same municipality, WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr. said.

Composite elements of the 40IB and Civilian Active Auxiliary from Kauran Advance Post immediately responded to the area and established checkpoints. While conducting checkpoint operations at Kauran Patrol Base, nine CAA personnel encountered an undetermined number of armed men on board a minivan. A firefight ensued which lasted for five minutes.

While scouring the encounter site, troops recovered the cadavers of the five slain armed lawless group members. Also recovered were two cal. 45 pistols, two empty magazines for cal. 45, and one minivan.

“We will continue to operate to quell armed lawless groups in our area of operation,” Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Commander of Joint Task Force Central said.

“Our campaign against armed groups will be relentless in order to minimize the atrocities and attain a just and lasting peace here in Mindanao,” Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. stated.
