SANTO TOMAS, DAVAO DEL NORTE – Eighty-Six (86) former rebels (FRs) from San Fernando and Kitaotao, Bukidnon received Livelihood Settlement Grant amounting to One Million Seven Hundred Twenty Thousand Pesos (Php 1,720,000.00) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI earlier today, October 20, 2021.

Each of the FR received 20,000.00 pesos financial assistance to be utilized as capital on their proposed livelihood project to uplift their socio-economic well-being.

Lieutenant Colonel Donald P Gaffud, Battalion Commander, 89IB expressed his gratitude to FRs for finally turning themselves into the mainstream society and called for the remaining rebels to return to the folds of the law so they could also avail the different benefits which the government is offering.

The beneficiaries were former members of the underground mass organization and NPA regulars who gave up armed struggle to start a peaceful life. They were enrolled to the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) to avail financial and livelihood assistance under the implementation of EO70 which also known as institutionalizing the whole of nation approach in ending local communist armed conflict.

The 1003rd Infantry Brigade through Lieutenant Colonel Alberto B Dabajo, Acting BDE S7 assured the FRs that there is nothing to worry because the government is always ready to support them. Furthermore, he urges them to stay united and help one another to attain genuine peace and development.

Makatao Battalion extends its gratitude to the various government agencies especially the DSWD as one of the main and leading agencies in providing sustainable livelihood settlement grant for the FRs to help them go back and live a normal life.
