Kalinaw News: 15 members of NPA yield in Albay along with high powered firearms

Posted to Kalinaw News (May 5, 2021): 15 members of NPA yield in Albay along with high powered firearms

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur – Barely a day after the mass surrenderers in Masbate province, another 15 members of Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) yielded to the government through the 49th Infantry Battalion (49IB) and PNP Ligao City, Albay on May 5, 2021.

6 of them are regular NPA members, 3 are Militiang Bayan members, 5 are Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) members and 1 supporter who also turned in five high-powered firearms and four low-powered firearms.

They were presented in a ceremony at 49IB’s headquarters in Barangay Tastas to Col. Jaime Abawag Jr. Commander 902nd Infantry Brigade.

According to the surrenderers, they can no longer resent the terroristic acts hurled by CTG which endanger the lives of the innocent civilians including their own families.

Recently, due to desperation because of their continuous debacles and waning support from their supporters in Bicol, CTG resorted to launch terror actions victimizing hapless civilians that further highlights their inhuman intentions.

Lt. Col. Benjamin Tapnio, Commander 49IB stressed that this development is the result of the consorted efforts of the members of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC).

Meanwhile, Col. Abawag thanked the families of now considered former rebels (FRs) who encouraged them to return to the folds of law and live a peaceful life.

Furthermore, Maj. Gen. Henry A Robinson Jr. Commander Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) underscored that even after their surrender, the government including the military, will continue to assist these FRs as they reintegrate to the mainstream society.

On May 4, 2021, 15 CTG members also yielded in Masbate bringing with them nine assorted firearms.

As the RTF-ELCAC rolls out more and more tangible programs, projects and activities intended for the sustainable economic and human development in Bicol, the JTF Bicolandia is confident that the CTG, which capitalizes on the underlying problems in the society to lure people into joining their hopeless cause, will certainly reach its natural death.
