The Military Ordinariate of the Philippines is hoping that the appointment of Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) would mean better things for the country.
“Problems here and there are just complicated and we hope he can make things better,” Bishop Oscar Jaime Florencio said in a statement on Friday.
The Catholic prelate believes that Eleazar is a good police officer also capable of leading the organization.
"I am just happy for his (appointment) because he is a good cop and I know he can lead the thousands of strong policemen in the country,” he said.
Florencio also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for designating Eleazar for the post.
“We just thank the President for his trust and confidence in Eleazar because, at this point in time, it's not that easy to be the top cop,” he added.
Eleazar will succeed Gen. Debold Sinas, who will mandatorily retire from the service on Saturday upon turning 56. Both of them belong to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Hinirang” Class of 1987.
