Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen. Gilbert Gapay on Monday has commended troops from the 2nd Infantry Division, National Capital Region (NCR), and 10th Infantry Division for their series of significant tactical victories against the communist terrorists.
This includes the encounter between the 2nd Infantry Division and over 20 communist terrorists in Rizal, Occidental Mindoro which resulted in the death of four of the New People's Army (NPA) insurgents and confiscation of eight high-powered firearms on Monday morning.
"Simultaneous joint law enforcement operations last December 10 led by the Philippine National Police and supported by the Joint Task Force-NCR in various parts of Metro Manila also resulted in the arrest of personalities identified by the PNP as leaders of the Metro Manila Regional Party Committee (MMRPC) of the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)-NPA," Gapay said.
They were identified as Rodrigo Esparago, secretary of the MMRPC; Joel Demate, deputy secretary MMRPC; Lady Ann Salem, head of Regional Youth and Student Bureau, MMRPC; Denisse Velasco, Kagawaran ng Edukasyon sa Rehiyon, MMRPC; and Marc Ryan Cruz and Romina Raiselle Lindawan, secretary and deputy secretary, respectively, of Regional Trade Union Bureau, MMRPC.
Gapay said this law enforcement operation is backed by a search warrant issued by Judge Cecilyn Burgos-Villavert of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 89.
"Their arrest essentially dismantles the leadership of the CPP-NPA in the National Capital Region and derails their recruitment of new members from the student and labor sector and the staging of atrocities, including assassination of former rebels and security personnel," he added.
Gapay also said the 10th Infantry Division last December 12 announced the successful operations against the so-called Guerilla Front 33 operating in Davao Del Norte which resulted in the death of one NPA member and capture of two others who are vice commanders of the terror group in the area.
"Two others, including another vice commander, surrendered to government authorities. Captured from them were 10 high-powered firearms," Gapay said.
Despite the accomplishments, Gapay said the military will continue with its relentless internal security operations and “maintain our strong momentum going into 2021 as victory is close at hand”.
