Kalinaw News: No place to hide CTGs encountered

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – Troops under the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) was able to prevent possible atrocities to be committed by the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) after communities exposed there whereabouts that led to two encounters transpired in the northern part of its Area of Responsibility on December 10, 2019.

At about 5 o’clock in the afternoon, troops from 403rd Infantry Brigade encountered more or less 15 CTG members in an inhabited area of Mt. Obulan, Brgy. Banglay, Lagonglong Misamis Oriental.

The 30-minute firefight erupted after the troops, while on the process of conducting security patrol, responded to the information fed by the community on the consolidation of armed men in the aforementioned area who were planning to conduct atrocities in an undetermined place and target.

The skirmish resulted in the death of one Communist Terrorist, the capture of two M653 Rifles; one M16 Rifle; one AK47 Assault Rifle; one Garand Rifle; and one (1) Cal. 22 Rifle.

The cadaver was immediately turned over to the Local Government of Lagonglong for identification and disposition.

Meanwhile, the troops from the 26th Infantry Battalion, while also on a combat patrol to pre-empt planned CTG atrocities, encountered an undetermined number of CTG members at Brgy. San Pedro, San Luis, Agusan del Sur.

A certain Reneboy Rocero was captured after his fellow members scampered in different directions.

Seized from the said Communist Terrorist (CT) are one caliber 45 pistol, one hand grenade, four cellphones, and subversive documents. He was also turned over to the San Luis Municipal Police Station for filing of appropriate charges.

From January 1, 2019, to December 10, 2019, a total of 395 firearms of various calibers were already captured by Eastmincom’s units from various encounters, while another 750 firearms were surrendered during the same period.

Meanwhile, Lt. General Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander of Eastmincom express appreciation and gave emphasis on the communities declaration of persona non grata against the CTGs as a major factor in locating them.

“The confidence of the members of the communities to report the presence of the CTGs in their locality was further boosted with the whole community declaring them as persona non grata. We are appreciative to these gestures and ask them to continue to implement it in deeds and spirit”. Lt. Gen. Santos said

He further directed his units to continuously intensify their security operations to allow the communities to celebrate the holiday season peacefully.

“Let our continous sacrifice with our relentless operations to deny the terrorists the opportunity to carry-out coercion and intimidation to our communities be our gift so that they can peacefully celebrate the holiday season and live peacefully in the next years to come” he said.
