ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), in partnership with a fishing association, has initiated relief operation for the victims of the series of earthquakes that recently struck Mindanao, particularly North Cotabato.
Joining the Westmincom in the relief operation is the Southern Philippines (SoPhil) Deep Sea Fishing Association, Inc., which is based here.
Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Westmincom chief, said Monday that the command’s officers and enlisted personnel are currently repacking the relief goods at the Officers’ Club House in Camp Basilio Navarro here.
Sobejana said that with the support extended by their partners and stakeholders, a total of 3,000 families from the affected areas in North Cotabato will benefit from the relief operation.
Sobejana said the packs of relief goods will be forwarded to the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) for distribution to the earthquake victims.
“We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Southern Philippines (SoPhil) Deep Sea Fishing Association, Inc., its members, and other stakeholders for assisting us in the realization of this relief operation,” Sobejana said.
“We want to return the assistance extended by the citizens of North Cotabato in all our endeavors, through this humanitarian activity,” he added.
The series of earthquakes displaced thousands of people and destroyed buildings and other structures in Cotabato and Davao provinces last month.
