ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Government troops have arrested an alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in this southern port city, military officials said Wednesday.

Col. Antonio John Divinagracia, Task Force Zamboanga commander,
identified the arrested ASG bandit as Amran Dala, a follower of Basilan-based bandit leader Furuji Indama.

Divinagracia said Dala was arrested by joint elements of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-11 and Police station 4 in Barangay Mercedes around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Divinagracia said the troops launched a law enforcement operation when they spotted Dala, who has a standing arrest warrant for murder.

The Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has been conducting pursuit operations against the ASG bandits in the provinces of Basilan and Sulu and other parts of Mindanao.

President Rodrigo Duterte has given the AFP until December this year to finish off the ASG bandits.

“We are firm in pursuing Abu Sayyaf militants and in encouraging other rebels to surrender to quell terrorism and deliver peace and progress in Mindanao,” Sobejana said.
