IMPASUGONG, Bukidnon -- Troops from the 8th Infantry "Dependable" Battalion (IB) collaborated with the Diocese of Malaybalay City to educate the Indigenous People (IP) youths of Bukidnon on the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) recruitment during the Diocesan IP Youth Gathering held today at Nuestra Señora del Pilar Chapel, Poblacion, Sumilao, this province.

To widen the knowledge of the IP youth on the deception tactics of the CNTs, army troops conducted lecture to the participants of the gathering. They also clearly answered and clarified issues raised especially on IP being tagged as mass supporters of the NPAs. The army personnel further advised them on how to avoid from being enticed by the left-leaning organizations to join their struggle and bring them to their death.
During the open forum, one student expressed her frustration on the CNTs. She said, “Nganong naa pa man ang mga rebelde? Sila man gihapon ang mangdaot sa atong nasod.” (why are there still NPAs? They are the ones destroying our country). “Mo-undang na unta sila kay hapit na ang pasko. Makauban pud nila ang ilang pamilya (they should now stop because Christmas is coming. They should be with their families), she added.
“We, in the Philippine Army, is serious in our fight against the CPP-NPA terrorist group and its left-leaning organizations. We will not let these young children become their victims. And with every sector of the society backing us up, like the church, we know that we can prevent tragedy on them, Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Illana, 8IB Commanding Officer said.
The Diocesan IP Youth Gathering was held to celebrate the year of the youth in realizing their aspirations. It also aimed to internalize the role of the IP youth in working for the community and cultural integrity and share experiences and approaches on their knowledge system practices and spirituality.
The Philippine Army will continue to collaborate with every sector of the society to ensure that the young ones will not become victims of the CNTs. (8IB, PA)
