CAMP MONTECLARO, Miag-ao, Iloilo – Reliable information from the community has foiled the plan of terrorists to destroy properties.
Lieutenant Colonel Joel Benedict Batara, Commanding Officer of the 61st Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, said that because of the report from the people of the presence of New People’s Army terrorists in barangay Igcabugao, Igbaras, Iloilo, the government troop responded to it.
The NPA terrorists, he said, plans to sabotage and burn the equipment of Century Peak Energy Corporation (CPEC) and the company's Hydropower Plant in the area.

This plan resulted in an encounter at around 8 a.m. today, September 25, between the government troop and approximately 10 NPA terrorist members led by Melgar Besmanos alias Mar of Sibat (SYP) Platoon, Southern Front Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay under Nahum Camariosa alias Bebong.
There was no casualty on the government side due to said encounter, Batara said.
Recovered from the encounter site are three Molotove bombs, one Rifle grenade, one Hand grenade, one Blasting cap, two packs ammonium nitrate, two Dynamites and one CNT shirt.
The CPEC supports the Armed Forces of the Philippines drive of not giving-in to the demands of the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) thru their extortion letters, he added.
On September 23, troops of 61IB also had an encounter with the same group that resulted in one terrorist NPA body count and the recovery of M16 rifle.
Meanwhile, Batara thanked the people for their support towards a peaceful and terrorist-free community, urging the public to continue to stand against the terrorist groups by providing information to the government troops. (JBG/1Lt. Hazel Joy Durotan)
