CAMP MONTECLARO, Miag-ao, Iloilo – Troops from the Army’s 61st Infantry (Hunter Battalion) figured in another encounter with CPP-NPA terrorists (CNTs) again in Barangay Igcabugao, Igbaras, Iloilo at around 8:00 in the morning of September 25, 2019.

According to LTC Joel Benedict Batara, Commanding Officer, 61IB, the eyes and ears from the community reported the communist-terrorists’ presence in Igcabugao who are planning to sabotage and burn the equipment of Century Peak Energy Corporation (CPEC) and its hydro-power plant in the area.

LTC Batara said his troops are conducting pursuit operations against the group of communist-terrorists they encountered in Barangay Ongyod, Miagao, Iloilo last September 23 when they received a reliable information about the presence of the terrorists in Igcabugao.

We immediately responded to the said report which resulted to another armed engagement with more or less 10 members led by Melgar Besmanos @ Mar of Sibat (SYP) Platoon, SF KR-P under Nahum Camariosa @Bebong, LTC Batara said.

No casualties on government side. The troops recovered from the encounter site 3 Molotove bombs; 1 Rifle grenade; 1 Hand grenade; 1 Blasting cap; 2 Packs ammonium nitrate; 2 Dynamites and 1 CNT shirt.

LTC Batara also underscored CPEC’s cooperation to the AFP’s campaign against insurgency by nor giving in to the extortion demands of the CNTs.

On September 23, troops of 61IB also encountered CPP-NPA Terrorist of Suyak Platoon under Joven Ceralvo that resulted to the recovery of a dead body of a communist-terrorist identified as Vincent Yovero, and an M16 rifle.

Batara attributed the successful prevention of CPP-NPA’s terror plan to the vigilance of the local populace who consistently providing information to their Army about the whereabouts and activities the communist-terrorist group.

“The troops will continue to safeguard the community against these terrorists and with the help of the people, together we can achieve a peaceful and developed barangays and municipalities,” Batara added.
