CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – The chief of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division honored on Monday six soldiers injured while performing their duties in Central Mindanao.
Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon, also commander of the Joint Task Force Central (JTFC), pinned the Wounded Personnel Medals (WPM) to the JTFC personnel admitted in Camp Siongco Station Hospital.
The medals were awarded to Corporal Ericson C Baliza, Private First Class Tirso V. Magalong of the 5th Special Forces Battalion, Pfc. Jade F. Panigon of 57th Infantry Battalion, and militiamen Jhonny K. Tumbaga, Danilo F. Faustino and Edwin S. Bastida of the 38th Infantry Battalion.
Carreon said the WPMs were awarded to the soldiers for putting their lives at risk in the discharge of their duties.
He said the wounded personnel displayed their bravery in driving away Islamic State-linked Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in the marshlands of Maguindanao over the past two weeks of military offensives.
"The soldiers are now recuperating at the camp hospital after they were hurt while pursuing the lawless elements," Carreon said.
