Report suspicious looking persons, activities during SONA: AFP

From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 21, 2019): Report suspicious looking persons, activities during SONA: AFP

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday urged the public to immediately report to authorities any suspicious looking individuals or activities within their immediate vicinity.

Col. Noel Detoyato, AFP public affairs office chief, made this appeal as President Rodrigo R. Duterte delivers his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) during the joint opening of the 18th Congress at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Monday (July 22).

"The AFP calls on our citizens to report to authorities any suspicious individuals and activities in their surroundings. The fight against terrorism and the preservation of peace are a shared responsibility of everyone so we should all do our part in this whole of nation approach towards peace and development," Detoyato added.

In line with this, he also said the entire AFP along with the Filipino nation is hoping that 2019 SONA will be safe, peaceful, and successful.

"As part of its efforts to ensure the success of this year's SONA, the AFP has raised its alert status to Red since Friday morning. This shall require its troops to be on standby mode ready for dispatch to support the Philippine National Police which is leading security efforts during the occasion," the AFP public affairs office chief added.

Around 14,000 plus security troops will be deployed to secure this year's SONA.

While the AFP has not monitored any threat from local terrorist groups, Detoyato said all military units will continue to be on a proactive stance against all threats of violence and will exert every effort to preserve peace, particularly in the National Capital Region.
