With Filipinos “in danger,” President Duterte has directed the military to finish off the “crazy” Islamic State-linked Abu Sayyaf group for sowing terror in the south.

The President said the nation does not need brutal human beings like the Abu Sayyaf militants who do nothing but to kill and destroy.
“Kaya tayo medyo may gulo and the Abu Sayyaf, which is really a connect of ISIS is still sowing terror…My orders to my military and police to just simply wipe them out from the face of the Earth if we can do that,” he said during his visit to Leyte last Friday.
“If they can exhibit that kind of brutality, finish them off because we do not need that kind of human beings with us. We have been out to make peace with them,” he said.
Duterte said he has already placed a military division in Sulu to combat the Abu Sayyaf militants threatening public safety. “We have to continue to worry about terrorism,” the Mindanaoan leader said.
He admitted that fighting has been “brutal” in the south as the IS militants commit kidnap-for-ransom and murder. He bewailed that these lawless elements have a penchant to decapitate their captives.
“Despite of the payments, they still proceed to kill their victims,” he said.
“I see these crazy guys, the follower of Islam, they are adopting or nurturing an ideology or it is really none at all. It is so bankrupt and it’s also empty and what they know is just to kill and destroy,” he added.
The President’s remarks came after authorities suspected the alleged involvement of the Abu Sayyaf group in the recent suicide bombing in Sulu.
Eight people, including three soldiers, were killed when an improvised explosive device was detonated outside a military camp in Indanan, Sulu late last month.
The Abu Sayyaf group has eluded authorities for years, as they launched bomb attacks as well as kidnapped foreigners and Filipinos for ransom. President Duterte has ruled out any peace negotiations with the group, and instead ordered the military to destroy the militants.
