AFP-WestMinCom to adopt three solutions to resolve ASG problem in Sulu

From the Manila Bulletin (Jul 7, 2019): AFP-WestMinCom to adopt three solutions to resolve ASG problem in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Armed Forces of the Philippines–Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom) will adopt three major solutions to put an end to the atrocities being committed by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and other terrorist groups in Sulu province.

AFP-WestMinCom Commander Lt Gen Cirilito Sobejana said, Saturday that one of the major and most harsh solutions that the military could adopt was to “finish them off”.

“We really have to finish the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in order for the investors to come in and do business (in Sulu),” Sobejana emphasized.

He noted that it was the only way to bring peace and development in Sulu, and help the province move forward.

Another solution was “if we want to defeat the enemy, then make them your friends rather than create enemies.”

“Everybody is our friend, kailangan din natin ang maraming kaibigan,” he said

He said the AFP-WestMinCom was now developing a tactical operational solution and approach which is strategic and advantageous to the military, provincial government and other local government agencies.

Sobejana said untouched natural resources and tourist attraction and destinations continued to be underdeveloped in the entire Sulu province due to the presence of the different renegade terrorist groups operating in the province, particularly the ASG.

These unfortunate situations have turned Sulu into one of the poorest provinces in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) region, he said.

Sobejana made the disclosure in a separate interview at the launch of Up-Up Zamboanga held at the third Andrews Air Base of the Philippine Air Force here, Saturday.
