The local leaders of Kapatagan, Balabagan, Malabang, Picong and Marogong all of Lanao del Sur handed-over a total of 10 unregistered firearms to the troops of the 6th Infantry Battalion in a turn-over ceremony held at the Battalion Headquarters in Barangay Matling, Malabang, Lanao del Sur yesterday, April 15, 2019.
The ceremony was held during the 13th Ranao Ragat Inter Agency Task Force (RRIATF) meeting with Colonel Wilbur C. Mamawag, Commander, 603rd Infantry Brigade as the Co-Chairperson.
Turned over were three M16 Rifles, four M1 Garand, one M1 Carbine, one M79, and one 12-guage shotgun.
Said firearms were recovered from the local folks of the aforesaid municipalities and were handed-over to the troops by respective Municipal Mayors in the presence of BARMM officials, DPWH representative, Chiefs of Police and other civilian guests.
Also tackled in the said meeting were the peace and security updates, criminality and future socio- cultural plans and programs.
“The handing-over of firearms is a collaborative effort with the local leaders in support to our campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms,” said Lieutenant Colonel Clairemont W. Pinpin, Commanding Officer of the 6IB.
Colonel Mamawag expressed his gratitude for the support of the local leaders in the quest against proliferation of loose firearms as this will bring peace to the community.
Joint Task Force Central Commander, Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana is delighted that the member of RRIATF has done its part to contribute in the increasing number of surrendered firearms in his area of responsibility.
Since January, 2019 to date, a total of 2,069 firearms were handed-over to the 6th Infantry Division/Joint Task Force Central.
“The Western Mindanao Command continuously fulfil its mission to end the proliferation of loose firearms in its area of operation,” said WestMinCom Chief Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega.
