CAMP GENERAL MATEO CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal — The troops of the 85th Infantry “Sandiwa” Battalion (85IB) clashed against the New People’s Army (NPA) Communist terrorist group at Sitio Aak Malaki, Brgy Vista Hermosa, Macalelon, Quezon yesterday, September 21, 2018.
Lieutenant Colonel Ely R Tono, Commanding Officer of 85IB said that the troops were conducting combat operation in the area to secure the Community Support Program (CSP) of the soldiers and the Local Government Unit (LGU) in the barangay.
While clearing the area, they chanced upon undetermined number of NPA, triggering the firefight that lasted for about five minutes.
Two soldiers were wounded and were now on stable condition after given medical treatment, while there was undetermined number of casualties from the enemies based on the traces of blood stains in the encounter site. The enemies brought along their wounded comrades when they scampered away according to the troops.
The encountered enemies were believed to be members of Platoon 2, Guerilla Unit 2, Sub- Regional Military Area (SRMA) of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee operating in Quezon.
Brigadier General Elias H Escarcha, Commander of the 201st (KABALIKAT) Brigade who has operational jurisdiction over Quezon province said that the troops were on tracked against the NPA terrorists in the province. “The NPA now doesn’t enjoy the support of the masses. The people already spoke and denounced their atrocities. There’s no other way for them but to surrender”, he added.
Major General Rhoderick Parayno, Commander of the 2nd Infantry (JUNGLE FIGHTER) Division said that the troops will continue to pursue the retreating enemies.
The government troops are continuing their massive pursuit operations against the NPA terrorists. Check points are also being expanded in the area in coordination withthe local police. 2DPAO / MCAG
