CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Armed Forces opf the Philippines (AFP formally received P117 million worth of ammunition from the United Statesto be used for training in Counter-Terrorism.

   

According to the US Embassy in Manila, the donation was funded under a $2.2 million grant through the US Counterterrorism Train and Equip Program.

The donation will benefit the Philippine Army Light Reaction Regiment and AFP Joint Special Operations Group, the primary unit of the AFP tasked to conduct anti-terrorism efforts.

The ammunition was sent via two (2) shipments that arrived at Clark Airbase in Pampanga last September 7 ang September 21. The shipments included 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm rounds, 12-gauge shotgun shells, .50-caliber rounds, and stun grenades.

Also included in the shipments are 1 million bullets purchased by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.

According to a message from the US Embassy, the United States government promised to continue supporting the AFP’s modernization program, as a long time partner and ally in the region AES/ PAO AFP / MCAG
