Two more members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) have surrendered to authorities, bringing the total to 181 ASG surrenderers since January this year.
Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, identified the surrenderers as Albi Amirol Alih alias Albi and Obin Umod Mano alias Saip, both followers of ASG leader Idang Susukan.
Besana said Alih and Mano voluntarily surrendered on Friday to the Army’s 21st Infantry Battalion (IB) in Barangay Danag, Patikul, Sulu.
Alih and Mano were presented later by Lt. Col. Jesus Pagala, 21st IB commanding officer, to Col. Peter Angelo Ramos, 501st Infantry Brigade commander. Alih yielded a .30-caliber M1 Garand rifle whole Mano a .45-caliber pistol, the military official said.
The pair was brought to Kuta Heneral Teofulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Barangay Busbus, Jolo, Sulu, for medical examination and debriefing.
“This is another welcome development as more ASG members are finally realizing that it is better for them to abandon the illegal activities they are doing, para naman mabigyan pa sila ng pagkakataon makapagbagong-buhay (to give them chance to lead new lives),” said Brig. Divino Rey Pabayo, Joint Task Force Sulu commander.
Of the 181 ASG surrenders this year, 75 surrendered in Basilan, 97 in Sulu, six in Tawi-Tawi, and three in Zamboanga City.
