DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Dec 20): REMEMBERING OUR HEROES  |  AFP to Launch the Red Rose Pin

CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines will be launching the “Red Rose Pin” to honor soldiers who died in the battle of Marawi to coincide with the celebration of the AFPs 82nd Anniversary

According to Acting AFP Spokesperson Marine Col. Edgard Arevalo, the “red rose pin” serves as a “Badge of Honor” that would remind us of the sacrifice and hardships of every soldier in defense of the nation

This is the first time that the AFP will be issuing the “red rose pin” that will be distributed to the love ones of our dear fallen soldiers who payed the ultimate price for the liberation of Marawi.

The pin can also be worn by civilians who wish to show their support to our hero soldiers

The red rose pin design has a single rose with a white and blue ribbon in its stem and underneath it is the phrase “”lest we forget”

At 3 o’clock this afternoon, the AFP will be having its grand parade at the open grounds of the AFP General Headquarters Grandstand and will be graced by the President and AFP Commander-in-Chief Rodrigo Duterte

The Red Rose Pin reminds us of the heroism and sacrifices of our soldiers in the performance of their sworn oath and sacrifice in the field of battle.

 Symbolism:

Partially Bloomed Wild Rose – the wild rose is a flower that is endemic to the Philippines, just like our soldiers who came from different places all over the country. The rose is partially bloomed which symbolizes the soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice ahead of his time.

Red – the color red symbolizes the blood and sacrifices of our troops.

Green leaves – As long as there are green leaves, there is still hope. The undying hope of the entire Filipino people who are longing for lasting peace.

Thorns – these signify the challenges that the bereaved families of our fallen soldiers need to overcome.

Bunting Ribbon with the Sun and Stars – it bears the colors of the Philippine flag, wrapped around the stalk. It symbolizes the Filipino people’s support for our troops.

LEST WE FORGET – articulates the sympathy of the bearer not to forget our fallen heroes.

Proper wearing of the Red Rose Pin:
Dependents and relatives of soldiers Killed-In-Action shall wear it on their left chest.

All other persons who are sympathetic and supportive to our soldiers shall wear it on their right chest.

Military personnel may only wear it in civilian attire unless prescribed. AES/MCAG
