From the Philippine News Agency (May 18): MMDA named as National Army Reserve Engineering Brigade
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has enlisted the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) as the country’s first National Army Reserve Engineering Brigade which can be mobilized to construct vital infrastructures such as roads and bridges during times of emergencies like disasters or in the event of war as an Engineering Combat Support Unit.
The Philippine Army, with the approval of the MMDA, granted the title to the MMDA after a thorough evaluation of its documents and qualifications.
The agency expressed intent to become an affiliated reserve unit after presenting its charter and the qualification of the agency's personnel to the office of the Army’s Reserve and Veterans Affairs which recommended to approve MMDA's bid.
MMDA Officer in Charge Thomas Orbos said the designation would enable the agency to maximize its resources and personnel to assist in times of disaster and calamities.
“It is an honor to be named and get this title. We owe it to the public that we serve to get immediate response especially in emergency cases,” Orbos said in a statement.
The MMDA has selected personnel willing to serve and qualify to perform the functions of the Army Reserve Engineering Brigade.
Those recommended to compose the Brigade will undergo the Military Orientation Training inclusive of field exercises.
Those who complete the required training will either be commissioned as officers or enlisted as non-commissioned members of the Army Reserve.
