From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 16): PA to host ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet Nov. 28- Dec. 7
The Philippine Army (PA) will be hosting this year's ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM) which will take place at Camp O' Donnell, Capas in Tarlac, from November 28 to December 7.
Col. Benjamin Hao, PA spokesperson said around 600 shooters and support personnel from ASEAN's 10 member states are expected to participate in the annual shooting event.
Delegates are expected to arrive in the Philippines starting Nov. 18 as part of their efforts to familiarize themselves to the shooting conditions and terrain in the country.
ASEAN member states include Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
"(The shooting event) is an opportunity for the PA to showcase the fulfillment of its 2016 basecamp of being at par with its ASEAN Armies' counterpart in terms of professionalism, equipment and skills," Hao said.
The AARM is an annual shooting competition started in 1991. The Malaysian Army initially hosted the shooting event.
Its objective is to develop and strengthen the relationship among member Armies, from its senior military leaders down to their foot soldiers.
At present, the AARM is divided into five competing events namely, pistols for men, pistol for ladies, carbine, rifle, and machine gun.
